Botswana: A unique wildlife of delta and desert
Botswana, we had heard many things about the country but had no idea what was to await us on our visit. Landing in Maun International Airport we were met by Wilderness Air representative who quickly and efficiently checked us onto our next flight. Stepping in to a 6-seater Cessna we were about to embark on a once in a lifetime experience, having to land on a dirt run way at the second attempt due to an elephant being on the runway gave us a clue as to what was to come. The first thing that grabbed me was just how much water surrounded us. We were in the middle of the Okavango Deltas flood season, so the drive to our first camp entailed an alternate route, one that was not driven during the dry Summer months. The differing landscapes of the delta are stunning and what you experience contrasts remarkably from season to season. We were welcomed in camp by the heart-warming singing of the camp employees and soon found ourselves in our luxury tented accommodation, within minutes we were enveloped by the serenity of our surrounds…we truly were cut off from the outside world with nothing but breath-taking African bush all around.
